Rachael Cassiani’s breezy landscapes capture her experiences living on the coast in Martha’s Vineyard. The majority of her paintings are abstract, made up of geometric sections of flat color. Her eye for color and skill with creating smooth fields of color are unmatched!
I love how she uses these different shades of pink, allowing them to play off of each other.
Some of her most recent paintings demonstrate a shift in painting styles, incorporating visible brushstrokes and blending of colors. This adds a sense of movement to her scenes, while still staying true to her abstract preferences.

What similarities and differences do you notice between these two styles of painting? Which do you prefer and why? This is a great activity to help kids develop their ability to “read” and talk about art!
