Natalie Ciccoricco is a Dutch mixed-media artist currently residing in California. Her recent series Nesting Place, created during California’s shelter in place order, features objects found in her yard or on walks. She then combines these with embroidery and sometimes paint on luxuriously textured paper. These works are a wonderful combination of the organic (naturally occurring) materials/shapes of her found objects, and the geometric, angular lines of her embroidery.

When speaking to children about Ciccoricco’s work, ask them what materials they think she has used. Have they ever collected sticks or rocks on outdoor excursions? If possible, gather these items and see if Ciccoricco’s work has sparked any new ideas for presenting these treasures. Children are predisposed to finding interesting objects and collecting them, and will appreciate having new ideas for showcasing them. Happy hunting!
