I love the words that American-Indian artist Meenal Patel wrote about her creative practice on her website:
“I am inspired by moments of childhood wonder, strong women, textures in nature, little joys from everyday life (hello ice cream) and my Indian-American heritage. I believe in the importance of all people having the opportunity to see themselves reflected in art as well as seeing into other people’s worlds through art – most especially the young humans in our lives who are so greatly influenced by the imagery that surrounds them in early life.” – Via Meenal Patel Studio
Looking at Patel’s illustrations and books, one can see how her work aligns directly with these values. Her illustrations promote diversity and love for others, a message that children will greatly benefit from!
This recently released children’s book was written and illustrated by Patel, and encourages children to recognize and embrace their heritage. Patel has signed copies available in her Etsy shop!
